BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Roy Grimes, MPA, MBA, CGFM
Mr. Grimes is currently President / CEO of Education Equity, Inc., a non-profit organization focused on Global Literacy, Equity of Educational Opportunity, closing the Digital Divide, Cultural Exchange, Language Immersion, Foster Youth, and Education Sustainability. Mr. Grimes is affiliated as Chief Sustainability Officer with Total School Solutions. Prior to his affiliation with TSS, Mr. Grimes served as School Board President and a member of a Board’s Executive Management Team for more than 25 years at both the K-12 and County Office levels; as a Teacher, Acting School Administrator, Reading Coach, PTA President and School Site Council President. Mr. Grimes’ previous professional experiences include: Principal Planning Consultant with the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, City Planning Commissioner, Licensed Commercial Land Broker & General Contractor, Planning / Business Consultant to local Government and Legislative Advocacy with major state associations. He holds broad views on sustainability and has been a presenter at State Association and Regional Forums. He has Global experience in Asia and Latin America. Mr. Grimes holds Master Degrees in Business Administration from Golden Gate University of San Francisco and Public Policy from the University of Southern California, (University Park) Los Angeles. In addition he earned the Financial Certification (CGFM) from the Association of Government Accountants in Washington, D.C. and has the Chief Business Official (CBO) Certification. He is a Certified Wildland Firefighter and holds California Peace Officer Status. His global vision and experience incorporates both the private and public sectors.


Viannie Chua, B.Sc (Biology), MS (Finance)
Viannie was born in Sarawak, Malaysia, educated and brought up in Singapore. In 2000, she founded a medium size medical equipment supplies and services company and held the leadership position as a business strategist for seven years. She exited the business and went on to further her graduate studies in Finance in 2007. She completed her Masters of Finance from Golden Gate University (San Francisco) in summer 2009 and won the Outstanding Student Award for MS Finance.

While in San Francisco, upon her graduation, she worked briefly as an Operations Manager where she used her start-up experience and successfully set-up the USA branch office for a UK Company. Viannie decided to return to Malaysia to be closer to her parents in Oct 2010. She is currently involved as a Financial Strategist in several start-up companies in Asia.

Viannie enjoys challenges and is relentless in her spirit to grow, develop and have fun along the way. Her favorite quote is by Mahatma Ghandi "Life is an experiment".


Scott Henry, MBA
Scott Henry currently serves as a Vice President in the investment banking group for De La Rosa & Co., a leading California municipal bond underwriting firm. As 13-year municipal finance industry veteran, he works with California municipal issuers, specifically school districts, to issue tax-exempt and taxable debt. He has completed debt financings exceeding $2.4 billion for a variety of California agencies.

Scott has served on the board of the Torrance-South Bay YMCA since 2005 including serving on the major gifts campaign, golf committee and finance committee. He also serves on the board of Equity Education, Inc. and the Redondo Beach Unified School District’s Citizens Bond Oversight Committee.

Scott received a MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Southern California. In addition he holds the Series 7, 53, 63 and 65 licenses.


Mariama Grimes, MPA
Ms. Grimes most recently worked as Special Assistant to Kim Smith, Co-Founder and Senior Advisor of NewSchools Venture Fund. As Special Assistant, Mari co-managed the Aspen Institute – NewSchools Entrepreneurial Leaders for Education Program, a fellowship designed to recognize and support a new generation of leaders prepared to address the challenge of transforming public education. In addition to managing the fellowship program, Mari supported Ms. Smith in her work to incubate new social ventures and to write and develop knowledge for the burgeoning education entrepreneurial field.

Mari began her career in government as an aide to the former Los Angeles City Councilman Alex Padilla. In 2003, she served as a member of the team chosen to redesign Sacramento High School into public charter high school. Mari’s background also includes fiscal and policy experience with the California Legislative Analyst’s Office, where she focused on health and higher education policy.

Mari holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California. In 2004, the Sacramento Observer honored her with one of Sacramento’s “30 under 30” awards, which recognizes outstanding African-American leaders among Sacramento’s professionals under the age of 30.


Tahir Ahad, MBA, CPA
Mr. Ahad is the president and chief executive officer of Total School Solutions (TSS). He founded the firm in 1999 and has been instrumental in maintaining the highest quality of the services offered by TSS and earning the confidence of clients TSS serves.

Besides his executive responsibilities at the firm, Mr. Ahad continues to be involved in providing direct services to TSS clients; primarily in the areas of efficiency studies, performance audits and evaluations, systems improvement, and developing and implementing best educational management practices.


Mr. Ahad has had a distinguished career in public education, serving as chief business official in five school districts. He had the opportunity to manage and implement facilities programs in each of these districts, three of which exceeded well over $100 million in construction.

Mr. Ahad has planned and constructed elementary, middle, and high schools. He is experienced in financing, planning, construction, and furnishing of school facilities. He has managed and overseen land acquisition and site improvement needs, including interaction with appropriate and relevant agencies.

Mr. Ahad has two decades of successful experience in developing systems and internal controls and in implementing improvements in all areas of K-12 school business management, including fiscal services, budget development and reporting, maintenance and operations, administrative and educational technology, risk management, and food services. Mr. Ahad takes pride in his record of student-centered decision making.

Besides his successes as a chief business official, Mr. Ahad is recognized for his knowledge of educational programs and expertise in employee-employer relationships, contract negotiations and maintenance, and human resources. Mr. Ahad has developed excellent working relationships with employee bargaining agents and their leadership.

Mr. Ahad holds a masters degree in business administration from Arizona State University and is a certified public accountant in California.
